Patch 1.0.16

Further tweaks for you today, vikings! This one includes fixes for both terrain modification and for some achievements, so we hope this makes playing smoother for you all! Due to some internal restrictions, the patch will require a few days to get uploaded to all platforms. Despite this, however, crossplay will still remain functional, so you can keep playing with your friends regardless of what platform you’re on. Patch Notes: * Fixed a bug that caused terrain modifications to revert in Deep North after unloading the area in some cases. Our apologies that this one went back and forth for a while! You may need to manually fix terrain seams by pickaxing, using the hoe, or walking over snow however. * Fixed a bug that could cause way too many enemies to spawn, especially during raids * Fixed Child of Odin achievement not unlocking correctly * Fixed a case where Comfort is King achievement was not unlocking correctly * Excluded unobtainable Blue Mushroom from The Gourmet achievement * Fixed a bug where smoke from fires could push some enemies in unintended ways * Fixed a bug where snow deposits from trees could cause the terrain to be raised around it * Fixed a bug where certain spawns during the Deep North boss fight could spawn outside the boss area * Fixed a bug where item variants were not applied visually to items on item/armour stands (e.g. shields) * Updated localization * Placeable rocks and boulders no longer take rain damage * Tessellation is now disabled in the “low” graphics preset * Tree logs in Deep North now move more consistently when rolling over snow * Fixed a bug where certain spawns during the Deep North boss fight could render incorrectly when standing in certain places * Fixed an error / potential crash in the online session Player List * Fixed a bug where rolling snowballs far away from the player could result in terrain seams and in some cases, crashes * Switch 2 / PlayStation¼5: Fixed a bug where motion controls activation was inconsistent * Switch 2: Fixed a bug where banding artifacts could appear on textures of objects very close to the camera * Mac App Store: Fixed a bug where backups could not be restored via Manage Saves menu

Patch 1.0.15

We have a small patch today that fixes an issue which has caused some players to have duplicated terrains and decreased performance. If you have been affected by this there is a possibility that you will have some visual seams in your terrain. Simply deform the terrain along these seams, or walk in the snow there to make the seams disappear. Previously, these seams would re-appear after reloading the area, but now they will persist correctly. For those of you who have run into the issue of incorrectly having items marked as cheated: We have a planned fix for this, but as it’s a fix that has to be released simultaneously on all platforms as to not break crossplay, it will come in an upcoming patch. We just want to let you know that you can continue to play normally with these items and they will be fixed soon! Regarding lost levels on items: An important message regarding the previous fix to where items on item stands or armour stands would lose their levels and variants. This was due to the updated save format introduced in 1.0, and sadly this data is lost in the conversion and the issue was not found during our testing of this update. This was fixed in Patch 1.0.12, so any world converted from now on will convert correctly. The good news is that there is a workaround if you are affected by this, either: * Revert your world from the backup which was made when you first loaded the new save format. Note: All world progress & changes you have made in the world will be lost with this method. * Or, make a copy of your backup, and enter into the backuped world, then put all your affected on to your character, and go back to your main world and replace the broken items. If you need help with this please feel free to reach out to us in the support channel on Discord. Patch Notes: * Fixed an issue that could cause terrain duplications which resulted in a loss of performance * Increased drop chance for Deep North Armor moulds by making both Jotun Warrior types drop both medium and heavy armor moulds * Writhan spawn rate and areas increased * Items affected by dev commands will no longer be marked for characters which have enabled the dev bypass command and naming has been updated and items can now stack together again Due to some internal restrictions, the patch will require a few days to get uploaded to all platforms. Despite this, however, crossplay will still remain functional, so you can keep playing with your friends regardless of what platform you’re on.

Patch 1.0.14

We've got more hotfixes and improvements for you today! This patch touches upon a little bit of everything, from keybindings to music. We hope you're having fun in the tenth world, vikings! Due to some internal restrictions, the patch will require a few days to get uploaded to all platforms. Despite this, however, crossplay will still remain functional, so you can keep playing with your friends regardless of what platform you’re on. Patch Notes: Quality of Life: * Added several new keybinding options to the keyboard (Alternate dodge key, hotbar rebinding (on top of 1-8), support for rebinding radial wheel, support for removing keybinds) * Added accessibility setting to be able to toggle blocking * Add toggle to Gameplay settings to skip the intro cinematic on startup * When attacking, the player’s rotation now also snaps towards the intended attack direction when the “attack towards look direction” option is enabled, not just when it’s disabled. * Swapped Motion Sensor and Sheath keybinds on gamepad, returning Sheath to its original keybind. Motion Sensor can now be activated with the alt-key + Sheath button instead. Optimizations: * Improved GPU performance when tessellation is disabled by eliminating unnecessary GPU overhead in this case. * Heightmap shadows are now calculated more accurately and at a lower performance cost. * Optimized particle systems in the main menu to reduce overdraw. * Multiple GPU performance improvements on Switch 2. Bugs & Issues: * PlayerBase effect on some build pieces has been increased to block enemies more * Fixed inaccuracies in stick input pre-processing that made it heavily weighted towards axis-aligned movement and 30% too slow diagonally. * Jotun puffs and Magecaps no longer respawn. * Fix for player characters sometimes mistakenly being marked as temporary cheaters, leading to items dropped by monsters they kill being incorrectly marked as having a cheated origin. * Cheated stackable items no longer stack with regular items, preventing uncheated stacks from being “corrupted” into a cheated state. * Persistent Events devcommand (“pevents”) is now actually behind the devcommands toggle and not available in the console by default. * Fixed errors when using the grappling hook’s secondary attack on creatures. * Fixed various issues with Ashlands water (VFX, water damage not stopping) * Fixed a bug where characters didn’t save correctly when manually pressing Save while playing on a server hosted by someone else. * Disabled biomedata caching, fixing a bug where the cache could end up in an invalid state, making it impossible to join remote servers. * Fixed Deep North battleaxes tool tier, can now cut all the trees. * Made placeable boulders persist, only placeable on the ground, break if the ground they’re standing on goes away, and give ground-level support. * Updated Ballista to make it accept all new trophies (All Deep North enemies + Bjorn + Vile) * Timberwood build pieces no longer incorrectly show up in earlier biome locations * Fixed various crashes/errors that could happen in rare circumstances * Fixed a bug where Helmet of the Protector was craftable directly via the Black Forge * Fixed a bug where terrain modifications by players or monsters could lead to performance and portal issues in multiplayer, such as performance and portaling issues, terrain seams, and terrain modifications becoming undone * Updated Deep North and Winding Tunnels music for better balance and to remove some clicks when looping. * Now plays the correct music in Mörkhalla. * Better mixing of location music in the Deep North. * Tweaked Seal and Baby Seal colliders to better match their bodies. * Fixed an issue where the “No time for snoozing” achievement could sometimes not be unlocked in multiplayer * Fixed an issue where The Homesteader and The Architect achievements could unlock repeatedly. * Nintendo Switch 2: The TV output no longer switches from 120 Hz to 60 Hz while the virtual keyboard is open or while in the home menu when using the balanced graphics preset and playing online multiplayer, which caused a black screen while entering and leaving these menus. * PlayStationÂź5: The TV output no longer switches from 120 Hz to 60 Hz while in the home menu when using the balanced graphics preset, which caused a black screen when entering and leaving this menu. * PlayStationÂź5: The “Stronger Together” achievement is now achievable. * Steam: Fixed a bug where Steam Cloud could get stuck in an invalid state if the game crashed while saving.

Hotfix 1.0.10 & 1.0.12

Hello vikings! We’ve got some hotfixes ready for you today, to facilitate your adventures in the tenth world. This includes a bunch of new sounds for the Deep North, and that you can now actually repair your endgame heavy armour. Phew! We do also have some Steam specific fixes, which will arrive to all other platforms shortly as well. But not to worry – even though the fixes are Steam specific, crossplay between all platforms is still fully supported. The fixes include a function to let you opt into using achievements even though you have been blocked from doing so because of previous usage of devcommands. We will leave it to your own judgement whether or not to activate this function – Oden will surely know if you use it dishonourably. May your axes stay sharp! Patch 1.0.10 – All Platforms * The heavy armour in Deep North can now be repaired * Greydwarf Shamans in Deep North now deal appropriate amounts of damage and healing * Punching no longer removes snow * Landing on snow without directly walking now removes the snow * Various sound effects updated for several creatures and the snow in Deep North Patch 1.0.12 – Steam Only The following fixes are fully crossplay compatible and will be extended to all platforms in an upcoming hotfix, which we're pushing out as soon as possible. * Using the Forge of Potential no longer unlocks recipes that should not be unlocked * Items on armour stands and item stands no longer lose their durability & upgrade level IF the world has not yet been loaded in the 1.0 update (We are however looking into a better fix for this so do not remove high level items (fish, weapons, armour, etc) from your item stands without using backups if you have been playing 1.0!) * Fixed a crash that could trigger when players tried to access a zone that wasn’t loaded * Fixed a problem with banlist and whitelist that made them only compatible with new IDs (e.g. V_123456789) even though they should work with old IDs too (e.g. Steam_123456789) * There is now a popup message to make it more clear when you can receive achievements again after them being temporarily disabled * Achievements can be now be opted into even if you have used devcommands or mods by the new devcommand ‘yesiuseddevcommandsbutiwantmyachievementsanyway’ * It’s now easier to fit the Cart through the Timberwood Drawbridge * Jotun Puffs and Magecaps no longer look pickable when they have been picked

Word from the Devs: Almost there

Greetings vikings! We hope you’re having a wonderful summer! We’re currently gearing up for the 1.0 release in September, fixing some final bugs and getting everything ready for you to experience in just a few weeks. We hope you’re as excited as we are! In the meantime, please do make sure you check out our 1.0 FAQ, which covers many of the questions we have been asked about the release. As always, we recommend that you start a new playthrough to get the best possible Valheim experience, but we also understand that many of you will want to visit the Deep North as soon as you can, and we have tried to answer any questions relating to that! And one last time in case you missed it, the 1.0 announcement trailer: As you know, next week we will be at Gamescom in Cologne, and we really hope to see some of you there. If you’re visiting, make sure to stop by our booth in hall 10 and say hello! And regardless if you’re there or not, make sure to keep an eye out for a brand new trailer that will be premiering during the event. We will be seeing some familiar faces
And with that, we’ll see you on the other side of 1.0! Build of the Month For many years now, we have been sharing your wonderful and creative buildings under this headline. With the Early Access journey coming to an end, we will also be wrapping up this particular segment – though we will of course still be curious to see what it is you’re building in the game. Keep an eye out on our social channels, because you can be certain that we will be asking you to share what you’ve made! To round off, we will highlight two builds this time. First out is The Bridge by myboyklaus. Look at all those creative solutions! And last, but not least, we want to direct your attention to the Cathedral of the All-Father, built by Ayriv. Since we’ll be going to Cologne it feels only fitting, after all! Sharpen your axes and raise your shields! /The Iron Gate team If you’d like to discuss the content of this post, please visit our Discord, or our forums on Reddit and Steam, or make a comment on social media!
